About Chris
I was born in 1942, which puts me squarely inside the age group this site is written for and about. I live in Switzerland, and I've spent enough years now on the other side of "getting older" to know that most of what gets written about ageing and safety is written by people who haven't actually lived through it.
For a period of my life, I was a full-time carer for a partner with dementia. That experience is the real reason this site exists. I know what it's like to worry about a fall in the night, to wonder whether a device someone won't wear is actually protecting them, and to make safety decisions for someone who couldn't always be part of that decision themselves. Nothing about that experience made me a medical expert — it made me someone who has sat with the questions these guides try to answer honestly.
To be clear about what I am not: I'm not a doctor, a clinician, or an occupational therapist, and I don't claim any professional qualification in health or elder care. I also haven't personally tested the specific products recommended on this site — as each guide discloses, the picks here come from published research and independent testing sources, not from my own hands-on use. What I bring instead is the lived experience of caregiving itself: knowing which worries are real, which questions matter, and why an honest "here's what this doesn't solve" is often more useful to a family than a glowing review.
If that background is useful to you as you make your own decisions, I'm glad. If you have feedback on anything across this site, feel free to get in touch.
